share your “one day without shoes” story

April 5th is “One Day without Shoes” Day. See the post below to watch the promo video. It is an effort to make people more grateful for the shoes we get to wear as well as encourage them to buy shoes for more than just themselves. Will you join me April 5th and go without shoes all day and everywhere.

If so, will you come back on Wednesday, April 6th, and share your “one day without shoes” story? What was it like? What did you notice? Why was it hard? What was the weather like? What did you stick in your foot? How will you be different? Or whatever else you want to share about the experience.

And you may do it and wish you hadn’t. If you thought it was dumb, share that too, including if you think it was the dumbest thing you ever did your whole life since that time in 8th grade when you gave Joey Weatherspoon a swirly in the locker room toilet. Or whatever dumb thing you did.

But I don’t think you will think it was dumb. You may even want to do it more than just once a year. Especially if you live in Florida.

And if you don’t own a pair of Toms, go to Toms.com and get a pair and you will also be buying a pair of shoes for a child who needs one.

Can’t wait to hear your stories!

So, who’s gonna be barefoot with me April 5th? Don’t forget to share with folks why you are doing it and how they can join in, too.

And no excuses here! I have fungus on the two smallest toe nails of my left foot, and I ain’t gonna hide it. No shame in this game. Especially if people who have no shoes get a pair of shoes because of the awareness it causes.

Grateful for Toms and the purpose of their business. Looking forward to next Tuesday.

will you go “one day without shoes” with me?

The last two years, I have gone without shoes for one day, supporting the creators of Toms in their efforts to engage American consumers in buying more than just a pair of shoes for themselves. Will you do it with me this year? It’s easy:

  • April 5th, 2011 is ONE DAY WITHOUT SHOES.
  • Go barefoot all day everywhere you go.
  • If asked, tell people why.
  • Encourage them to check out Toms.com.
  • Buy a pair of Toms yourself if you don’t have one.

See. It won’t hurt a bit. Unless you step on a sharp object. So stay alert and become aware of how much we take for granted getting to wear shoes everyday.

Check out this “one day without shoes” video from Toms. Pretty cool. ALSO – if you can, purchase a “one day without shoes” T-Shirt from Toms and they will give a child a new pair of shoes.

Much love!

we are united _ a music video

Some friends of ours in New Orleans, Vintage Church, are leading out to cultivate for unity among local church expressions there much like what we are praying for and cultivating for here in West Orange County. One of their musicians, Jake Smith, who happens to be a top recording artist on iTunes, along with one of their very talentedgraphic artists and videographers put together this original song and video. It is well worth watching.

May we all as followers of Jesus as His church together take seriously what He prayed in the Garden the night before He would suffer and die for our reconciliation and restoration. And may we actually live as an answer to His prayer, demonstrating the reconciliation and restoration and enduring love of our gracious God, so that the world will know and believe in the One who was sent.

18 In the same way that you gave me a mission in the world, I give them a mission in the world. 19 I’m consecrating myself for their sakes so they’ll be truth-consecrated in their mission. 20I’m praying not only for them but also for those who will believe in me because of them and their witness about me. 21The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind—just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, so they might be one heart and mind with us. Then the world might believe that you, in fact, sent me. 22 The same glory you gave me, I gave them, so they’ll be as unified and together as we are—23 I in them and you in me. Then they’ll be mature in this oneness, and give the godless world evidence that you’ve sent me and loved them in the same way you’ve loved me. [John 17:18-23, The Message]

pardon the interruption…

Not that there are very many of you even out there that are interested in my blog, but for those of you who might care just a little bit, I am on a brief blogging break. Again, you probably don’t even care, except like maybe the same amount as you might care for a wider straw when you get a thick Chick-Fil-A milkshake, or like maybe the same amount as  you might care to not have a paper cut on your ear lobe, or like maybe the same amount as you might care to win a be-dazzler. You certainly don’t care as much as you will about March Madness next week or about the price of gas. But maybe you at least care as much as you did about the Miami Heat crying in the locker room after their 4th straight loss.

I apologize for not blogging since Valentine’s week. I am actually busy finishing a manuscript for a new book that I am very, very excited about and feel very, very sobered by its message and implications. I hope you will be challenged reading it as much as I have been writing it. But you will have to be patient. It doesn’t come out until January 2012. In the mean time, the new version of LIVE SENT releases in April, but that’s another blog and blog post.

SO, the REFLECTIONS ON ISRAEL series will continue after March 18th, which is the deadline for the book manuscript. When that series wraps, it will be followed by  a series entitled “RANTING AND RAVING ABOUT…” The rants and raves will include what’s swirling in my head and heart about:

  • politics
  • sports
  • coffee
  • restaurants
  • weight watchers
  • couponing
  • jake smith
  • home school
  • texting while driving
  • twitter and facebook
  • emealz
  • church marquee signs

Not necessarily in that order. In the meantime, make sure to sign up for the College Basketball Tournament Challenge. If you want to be in the group my 9 year old and I are putting together, then comment below and let me know.

Much love! And Go Duke! And please pray that God will grant me wisdom and clarity as I finish this manuscript as well as encouragement for those who read the new LIVE SENT release.

That is, if you even care :)
